Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Panasonic NN-T775SFB 1-3/5-Cubic-Foot 1250-Watt Inverter Microwave Oven, Stainless SteelCustomer Review: Nice idea, not well implemented Summary: 3 Stars
For its intended function - an inverter microwave - it performs perfectly. The power options are appropriate and useable, I love being able to melt butter gently, and the defrost cycle works pretty well.
Everything else is a royal nuisance:
1. Having to hit the power button 10 times to get to power level 1 is idiotic. "P, 1, Time, 6, 0, Start" would have been fine, but "Power, Power, Power, Power, Power, Power, Power, Power, Power, Power, 6, 0, Start" gets old in a hurry.
2. The beep options are "too loud", and "off". If you're going to give me an option here, "don't wake the neighbors" should be one of them.
3. On the subject of options, the selection mechanism is clumsy and difficult to navigate. The stunted, scrolling messages are labored and difficult to "reassemble" in your head, and many of the options are pointless because they're not saved if the power goes out: daylight savings, language, lbs/kg .. how often am I going to change these things? Save them for me! Forever! Flash memory in the embedded microprocessor used to control these things is dirt cheap. Oh, and don't tell me to "enjoy my meal" - I don't want my appliances getting cute with me.
4. The door button: it works, and it hasn't fallen off yet today, but I'm not sure about tomorrow; it's unpleasantly sloppy, with a flimsy, weak feel to it.
5. The stainless steel case: looks nice, but though the packaging was completely pristine when I bought it, there had obviously been some kind of sticker on the front left of the top surface, which had left an unpleasant mark on the brushed stainless steel. It took months for that to go away, despite my efforts to clean it off with various chemicals.
Useability: This is a powerful microwave; power level 7 is best for most "wet" things, with 5 being better for foods that have a combination of fat and water in them (lasagne reheats, for example). The sensor works quite well too, but not with small quantities of food, which will overheat before the sensor detects the evaporated moisture that says "done".
Most important advice: use a vented plate cover all the time, it makes a world of difference, both to help achieve evenness in temperature, and to avoid dehydration.
Summary: all in all not a bad device, but it really needed input from a "human factors" expert. It's a disappointing offering from a company with experience and prestige.
