Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Panasonic NN-T983SF 2.2-Cubic-Foot 1350-Watt MicrowaveCustomer Review: Excellent quality microwave Summary: 5 Stars
This is my 2nd Panasonic "Genius" microwave. I bought the first one about 22 years ago and it finally conked out. This unit has nearly twice the power of the old one and probably 45% more interior space as well as a smaller footprint and 1/3 the weight. I paid $450 for my first one back in the early 80's. I see now that Amazon has raised the price from the $125 I paid a couple months ago to $169, but regardless the quality is worth every dollar. You can buy a cheaper unit, but not with these features. I find that I don't need to "zap" foods at the highest power setting or else they will get overdone or ruined. Best thing to do is read the directions and be conservative with the power. A microwave is indispensible in the kitchen for a good cook. I can do whole meals with mine. It's more than a coffee maker and popcorn popper. But if you want something that will cut the time in preparing a dinner, get this Panasonic unit. Otherwise, if you are a bachelor who can barely boil water, then get yourself a Walmart el-cheapo microwave for $40. I am hoping that this Panasonic T-983SF will last as long as my other did. I fully expect it to. But who knows -- in 20 years we may have a whole new technology out there.
9/12/05: The above was actually posted April, 2004. Oh, well -- big disappointment now. After using my microwave for nearly 1-1/2 years it died on me. I called Panasonic Customer Service and they said they knew of no issues with this unit. Hard to believe that. I called the area service center and a service tech said the same thing. But he suggested that instead of me bringing it in or shipping it, that the problem is likely that I have blown the "Main Power Fuse" and I could probably get a replacement locally for a few dollars. Otherwise, I would have to ship it to them and they would charge $26 to replace the fuse. I am going to try replacing the fuse myself or getting someone locally to handle it. I still love this microwave -- if it works. I feel sure it must be the fuse. But if it's not, then I don't know what I will buy to replace it. I guess there is something out there with the same features. Panasonic should be ashamed of themselves to ignore this problem and deny there have been no issues.
