Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Panasonic Prestige NN-SD688S, 1.2-Cubic Foot 1300 Watt Sensor Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel

Customer Review: Heats quick
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this during a kitchen remodel to replace an amana over range unit as we installed a range hood.
It seems to have plenty of power and heats everything very fast and evenly. We really don't use the microwave for much more than reheating coffee and leftovers. So far it is working very well for that. Will probably need to refer to the manual for instructions on thawing frozen items as Panasonic says it is unique in the power delivery for that purpose. My only complaint so far is that it is not real intuitive in use and the door button works ok, but is not very smooth. Make sure you have plenty of juice on the circuit you plug it into as it pulls over 12 amps on high. Overall very satisfied.

Customer Review: Good microwave
Summary: 4 Stars

Pros: cooks and reheats food quickly and evenly, sleek design, sensor feature works very well which surprised me because in my past experience with microwaves it seems to be a joke feature. Basically lives up to the product claims and looks very nice while doing so. Cons: controls are not self explanatory so you have to look through the manual the first couple uses until you get the hang of it. The push button to open the door is hard to use and you have to set whatever is in your hands down in order to open the door and avoid spilling on yourself.

Customer Review: works well but make sure you like the dial
Summary: 4 Stars

Everything works really well in terms of heating the food. Food comes evenly heated and qucikly heated. The preset setting for popcorn is a bit oo powerful in my experience: there's always some burnt kernals. The display is quite poorly lit and hard to read at wide angles. The dial for time was cool at first but once the novelty wore off, it became obvious that it's finicky to adjsut time with, especially for short heating times. Overall,a great performing microwave with a few interface issues.

Customer Review: The Display Has Been Fixed, Apparently
Summary: 4 Stars

All of these people here mentioning the digital display needs to be at a certain level. I'm sure that must have been the case initially, but I just bought this 11/18/10 and it's not an issue at all. I can read it from any height/angle, above, below, whatever.

Otherwise, it works as expected, and I was glad to find it since I needed to fit a specific space and it was one of the few microwaves that was less than 13" tall but wide.

Very happy with the purchase.

Customer Review: Good value
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this microwave for our son's apartment. He and his roommate use it daily and it does a great job. The drawbacks are its size - a little large for a small kitchen, the push-button open latch is a bit stiff and moves the unit when opening, and the interior light comes on only when the door is open. Otherwise it's fairly simple to operate and does a good job heating food evenly and quickly. It's a good value.
