Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Panasonic Prestige NN-SD997S, 2.2cuft 1250 Watt Sensor Microwave Oven, Stainless SteelCustomer Review: Very good microwave with one minor flaw Summary: 4 Stars
First, there are several reviews here for customers complaining about a "chip" in the trim on this microwave, and some even returning several of them to try to get one without it. The "chip" is not a defect, it's there to provide clearance for the door (with the optional trim kit, I believe).
Make no mistake, this microwave is large. Look at the product dimensions and make sure you have enough space. It is cavernous inside. The speed dial seems awkward at first but you quickly get used to it. Fingerprints are a battle on the stainless surface.
The one minor gripe I have is that the finish notification is very quiet. We have four kids so this thing gets put though it's paces, but that also means there is a lot of noise in our house and most times we don't hear when the microwave is done heating because the chime is so quiet. Other than that, it's very nice and I would purchase it again.
Customer Review: Stopped working within a year Summary: 4 Stars
Update 19-March-2011 - I had this microwave for little under a year. Cooking using the timer produced good results. Cooking using the heat sensor woould typically overcook. All that stopped mattering to me when it quit working today. Now the microwave just displays an H98 error code (intertor or magnetron problem). Now I get to experience Panasonic's customer service. Oh joy.
May 2010 - I bought this Panasonic model based on its reviews of usability and quality. It's large on the inside for a reasonable outside footprint. Very powerful and even heat. I was used to a handled door on a previously owned microwave but the Panasonic's push button has a smooth action and I prefer it over the handle. The controls are simple and intuitive. The only minor complaint I have is the fan noise. It's a higher pitch and level than the 25 year old Sanyo I was previously using.
Customer Review: Hard Act To Follow Replacement Summary: 4 Stars
This oven replaced a near 30 year-old Amana Radar-Range Plus; a very hard act to follow. So far it has performed well and we like the design and power. The size is great (it accepts a 13 inch glass pan) and we like the actual buttons and knobs rather than membranes. The only negative so far is the lack of sufficient interior lighting. Also the light bulb isn't user-replaceable but most likely the expense of having a technician repair the light wouldn't be worthwhile since it's practically worthless anyway. But other than the weak light, we're very satisfied.
Customer Review: My NN-SD978S also has a chip Summary: 4 Stars
I recently purchased the Panasonic Model NN-SD978S. After reading the review regarding the chip on the door i immediately went to check my unit. Sure enough, I found a chip also. This one is going back to Sam's Club. This must be an inherent flaw in ALL of these units.
Customer Review: This is my second Panasonic Microwave and I love this one too. Summary: 4 Stars
My old Panasonic worked beautifully and hard for years. My new one works just as well and it arrived very quickly and in perfect condition. I was surprised and disappointed to see that even Panasonic products are now "MADE IN CHINA".
