Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Panasonic SRG06FG 3.3-Cup Automatic Rice Cooker

Customer Review: Simple, easy, small rice cooker
Summary: 5 Stars

Come on now! For the price of this thing, the value is great! I've been using it for about a month or so now. As a single dad, it's been a godsend. Rice fills out a meal and some nights it's the only thing my kids will actually eat. I fried up some chicken in a pan from a boneless, skinless breast, used some seasoned salt and let the rice cooker do its thing. Lo and behold, about 20 minutes later I had some savory chicken and the rice was done. Add some frozen stir-fry vegetables cooked in about 5 minutes and it's a meal!!!

One of these days I will splurge and buy a nicer, fancier model with warming, a steaming basket and stuff like that. But, for the money, this does what it says it will do. I've cooked white rice and brown rice. I use the little plastic cup that came with the cooker and do a 1:1 ratio for white rice and 1:1.5 ratio for brown. I've had a little bit of scorching on the bottom of the rice sometimes, but nothing bad. The brown rice *does* seem to bubble a little more and adds to the clean up time, but that's all.

For a guy like me, the rice cooker is a great thing. Hit that button and the rice cooks. It pops up when it's done. That's it! I never used to cook rice because it was such a mystery to me. No more! If you're looking for a simple small appliance, this is it. It just works and does what it says it will.

Customer Review: A sturdy workhorse
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had a National rice cooker for nearly 30 years, having replaced the cord and the top handle. I've cooked literally thousands of batches of rice with my National cooker and only recently did I finally consider replacing it. It used to be very simple to clean, although it did not have a nonstick surface, but eventually it just became too much work to scrub it out. What I was looking for was another rice cooker just like it: a basic unit with absolutely no bells or whistles and no pretense of being an all-purpose appliance that could steam vegetables or keep food warm. Just cook the rice, please.

The little Panasonic rice cooker is exactly like my old National, only better. The see-through top is entertaining; the old unit had an aluminum cover. The nonstick pot is great, and cleans up in seconds. It even came with a nifty little plastic rice paddle that is easier to clean than my bamboo version. The cooker does exactly what I want: perfectly prepares a one- or two-person batch of rice while I'm busy cooking the rest of the meal. Add rice, rinse, add water, put pot in cooker, put on lid and push the button. Ten or 15 minutes after the button pops up, the rice is steamed and ready to go. I love it.

Customer Review: Great little rice cooker
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had a National rice cooker for over 20 years that still works fine but has an aluminum pan. Wanted something a little smaller and non-stick. I believe Panasonic acquired National so thought I would try one of their cookers.
Received it yesterday and decided to test it right off the bat. I make a mixture of brown rice and barley, and after reading all the reviews, decided to just put in 1.5 cups of rice and 3 cups water. I have always rinsed my rice first so did that as well. Used my own measuring cups (not the one included with the cooker)and room temperature to cold water (which was necessary with my National). Plugged it in and hit the switch-I couldn't believe how quickly it cooked! It came out great with just a touch of browning on the bottom. That might have been due to 1)the grains were on the old side so might have needed more water and 2)I left the rice in the cooker longer than I usually do because I thought it might be a little undercooked.
Very pleased with my purchase-nice compact size, makes the right amount for two people and did a great job in a short amount of time.

Customer Review: Great little rice cooker and quite useful
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for a rice cooker that wouldn't take up too much counter space or force me to make so much rice that I wasted food and that also made fast, tasty rice. This little cooker does all that. There are no bells and whistles, aside from the no-stick liner. But I cannot say that I've ever used it and wished for any extra thing so I'm not sure what I'm missing. I toss in rice and water, hit the button, and viola, I come back to very nicely cooked rice. We've used it to make many types of rice. I put the lid and scoop in the dishwasher and handwash the nonstick liner. This seems to be preserving the coating because we've used it a lot and still no chips. We are a family of 4 and this cooker is plenty big enough for us. It is especially handy for single servings, though. We have even added chicken and peppers to the raw rice and water and it cooked us up a tasty rice dish with no fuss. I waited to review this cooker until we'd used it for long enough to know I'd gotten my money's worth. I did, for sure. If it broke tonight I'd order another one without hesitation.

Customer Review: FoolProof for the NewlyWed
Summary: 5 Stars

This little rice cooker has been a fantastic gadget for my kitchen because I have always messed up rice one way or another. So, for the sake of saving the life of yet another pot I decided to opt for this rice cooker. It was also highly praised by my in-laws :)

I have only used this a few times but each time my rice has come out absolutely perfect. Its simplicity makes it a breeze to use. Cooking rice was once a juggling act for me but now I literally rinse the rice, dump the water and rice into the pot and set it and forget it. This is really nice because it lets me focus on the main part of dinner. Bye Bye juggling act!! The nonstick pot is great too because it makes cleanup effortless.

If you're reading this and are on the fence I hope that my review has helped ease your concern. Also, if you're getting married I definitely recommend adding it to your registry. I didn't think I needed a rice cooker along with all of the other gadgets or that it was worth the money but for this price and the results it is definitely a must have!
