Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Panasonic SRG06FG 3.3-Cup Automatic Rice Cooker

Customer Review: I am impressed!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am rarely inspired to write product reviews but this rice cooker so far exceeds my expectations that I feel obligated to pass that information along.

I have cooked only one batch so far but it turned out extremely well. I was skeptical about the amount of water to use. It didn't seem nearly enough. This was brown rice, not white rice, so I was concerned that it would come out crunchy with so little water. I also cooked only one cup of dry rice so I was further concerned that the small quantity might be a problem. Despite those concerns, I followed the instructions to the letter.

I needn't have worried. I got the best batch of brown rice that I have ever made and I didn't have to think about it at all. I just loaded the cooker up with rice and water (after soaking the rice for 30 minutes), flipped the switch and forgot about it.

I can't vouch for the product's longevity but I'll be using it a lot so I'll be in a good position to learn how durable it is.

Customer Review: Great basic rice cooker
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a really great, basic rice cooker. It doesn't have the bells and whistles of the more expensive rice cookers (no warming feature, no different settings, etc.), but it works well for cooking rice, it's compact, and reasonably priced. Prior to buying this one, we had another basic model made by another company that broke. We replaced with an identical one, and it broke as well. After going through two rice cookers, we decided to pay $5 more to get a different brand- this Panasonic. We have had no problems with it, and we also like the non-stick pot. With our old rice cooker, the rice would stick to the bottom of the pot, so we couldn't eat all of it. The Panasonic doesn't have this problem, so we can make smaller quantities of rice without wasting most of it. I have made white rice, brown rice, and quinoa in the rice cooker, and all have turned out well.

Update: March 2011- still going strong, although the non-stick coating is starting to show its age.

Customer Review: Here's how to measure
Summary: 5 Stars

This simple, compact cooker makes great rice. But the instructions are unclear, incomplete, and filled with typos. Here's what they should say.

1. Using the included measuring scoop, measure 1, 2, or 3 level scoops of uncooked rice into a strainer. (The scoop is 3/4 cup. If you've lost it, use a measuring cup to measure 3/4, 1-1/2, or 2-1/4 cups of rice.)

2. Rinse the rice in the strainer under cold running water.

3. Dump the rinsed rice into the cooker pan.

4. Add cold water to the pan so it just reaches the 1, 2, or 3 cup mark on the side of the pan. For example, if you used 2 scoops of rice, add water to the 2 cup mark.

5. Place the pan in the cooker, put the lid on, plug in the cooker, and press down the switch to turn it on.

6. After the Cook light goes out, wait 15 minutes for the rice to finish cooking.

7. Gently stir the rice, and serve.

Customer Review: Perfect little rice maker/wish it came with a steamer basket
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the perfect rice cooker for one to two people. I live in NYC, space is limited but this little guy leaves a very small foot print on the counter and light enough to move into cabinet every day if must. Only thing, I wish it came with a little steam basket but I put my veg. in just as the rice stops cooking and let it sit for about 10 min (if I have time. Broccoli is perfect, cut carrots thinner and they will be fine too with a little crunch to them (don't like soggy carrots anyway) Easy clean up. again wish there was a steam basket or at least one you can buy. Oh well everything else really makes up for it. Cooks white rice perfectly, you have to play with the water with brown rice but I found my perfect water amount and now I make perfect brown rice. Very much recommend this product.

Customer Review: Loooove this rice cooker!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had had the same Hitachi rice cooker since I moved out on my own for 10 years! and it still worked. Kudos for hitachi for that, but it was looking old and nasty and really needed to be put out of its misery.

I bought this one which is much smaller but it makes more than enough rice for a family of 4 two eat two meals from. And we are not small portion eaters! It is small, compact, and cute. It has a non-stick pot so the rice will not stick to the bottom, which it would with my old hitachi.

My only gripe is that it does not reheat the rice as thoroughly as my hitachi did. The top of the rice is still cold while the bottom is steaming hot. You have to stir the rice around a bit and then turn it back on again.
